"Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros
What does the narrator mean when she says "when you're eleven, you're really ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three and two and one," ? Use an example of something that has happened to you when you felt like you were an age different than the one yu were really were. Why did you feel that way? What do you think it means to be the age you are now? How is it different than the ages that came before it? Please use new blog rules (i.e. proofread and use specific examples) in your answer. When Rachel says she's not just 11, shes 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,and 1, she means she has all of the memories and feelings, and abilities of the time when she was those ages. One time this feeling has happened to me is when I was in 3rd grade. My teacher got mad at "me" for talking. But, it was really my friend who was talking. I wanted to tell her but she wouldn't let me talk, and the words just wouldn't come out of my mouth. I was so upset I almost started crying, I had to go to the bathroom so nobody would see me crying. At that moment, just like Rachel, I felt like I was 3 years old not 7. The same thing happened to Rachel.
P.S. By the end of the day I got a chance to tell my teacher the truth... :-)
The narrater means that when your eleven you still feel like your those younger ages because sometimes you act like your those different ages because you do different things that makes you feel that age.For example today I ran through the halls to get to class because otherwise I would of been late.This is something a five year old would do so it made me feel like I was five because I know i'm not supposed to do that and a five year old would do that because they don't know any better.So it made me feel like I was five because I know i'm not supposed todo that unlike a five year old but I did it any way because I kind of had to.

The narrator says that when you are eleven, you are really ten, nine, eight, etc. because you have alredy been those ages so you have the emotions and feelings from that age inside you. An example is when I was five. I had my GameBoy taken away and I was really mad and upset. I threw a temper tantrum like I used to do when I was three. I felt like Rachel because I was really upset.

In eleven rachel she is not just 11 but 1-11 she means that she still has all the qualities and emotions and memories when she was all those ages in between when i was in 3rd grade a 4th grade teacher got mad at me because she thought i hurt a kid during a soccer game at reecess even though it was not me. When she started yellin me i felt like hiding from her like when i was 4 and was getting yelled at this experience was very similar to Rachel's
Hi it's Sydney.When Rachel says that she is not just 11,but that she is also 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1,it means that just because her body is growing doesn't mean that she is abandoning a part of all those experiences, feelings from being all those ages.Instead she is just representing a piece of all the ages she has gone through.For example, when I was 10 I started to cry just because I thought I could get attention by doing so.Instad I was told to calm down. I felt that way because my younger sister was getting all of the attention. I think that means that as I grow I am going to be trusted with more things and that it is an honor to be the age that I am. Also I think its different because I am trusted with more things now than I was before.

When Rachel says not just 11 shes 10,9,8,7,ect. she means that she can be all those ages at the different times in her life. For example when the teacher got mad she wanted to cry like she was 3, and when she woke up on her birthday she felt like she was 10 still. Once when I was in class in forth grade we were lerning how to write expository pieces and I felt like I was in High School lerning all the things to do at once in the most difficult form. thats how I felt the same way Rachel did.

1, she means sometimes she feels as if she is one of those ages. I felt this way when I was in second grade, I had just came back from the library and everyone was staring at me, I didn't know why so I got kind of mad. I felt like I was three. There was a bunch of people behind me they could have been staring at one of them. I think as you grow older you earn more responsibilities, such as feeding a pet or having to remember to be at a place at a certain time.

When Rachel says shes also 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 she means that although your eleven you still have the past years in your memorie. You are still aloud sometimes to act younger because of what happened. No matter how old you are you are aloud to cry and sometimes act like your 3 or 5. I remember one time in 5th grade when there was an assignment on the board and only one table did the assignment, my teacher made everyone clap. So i was clapping just like everybody else and then my teacher said i wasn't clapping. Then she made me clap alone infrount of the whole class. My face got really red and i didn't know what to do. I didn't understand why i was the only one who had to clap alone. So I know what Rachel feals like.
P.S I didn't like my teacher anyway she played favorites and excluded alot of people that is not a teacher you want to have. Oh and i wasn't a favorite.

In the short story "Elven" Rachel says that when your 11 your also 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2, and 1. She means that even if your older you can still feel like your all other ages. One time i felt like this was in 4th grade my teacher gave a pop quiz and told us to read all the instructions. The instructions said to not do any of the test and read a book. I didn't read the instructions and so I went right on to the first questions which said to stand up and recite the alphabet out loud. When I did I felt really foolish like when I was 5 or 6.
This is Aly. I think Rachel says that your not really 11 your 10 9 7 5 4 3 2 and 1 because you have all the emotions and feelings of a 10 9 8 7 5 4 3 2 or 1 year old. Like when I was five the principal of my school scared me and pulled me away so I started crying like I was a little 2 year old!

Also, she means that you still sometimes do what you would do when you were four even if you're forty. One time in 5th grade, at receas, my mom gave me a glass bottle and then I thew my lunch bag down and it shattered and started leaking. The lunch lady made a really big deal out of it and was yelling really loud infront of everyone. Also, the next day, she made an announcment before receas and said that we weren't aloud to bring glass bottles to school, and that someone did yesterday, and then everyone started staring at me and it was really embarasing, so I know how Rachel feels.
When the narrator says that even though she has had her 11th bithday, she still feels that she is 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2, and 1, she means that she has turned 11, but sometimes she acts like she still is 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,and 1. When I was in the 1st grade, PLEASE DON'T LAUGH! I had to go to the bathroom, and the one in our classroom was occupied.....so i had to wait over by the cobards for him to come out, and he took FOREVER. I REALLY had to go, and I just couldn't hold it anymore! Un fourtunatly, he was STILL in the bathroom, and I went in my pants. I never wore my blue corturoys ever again. One this day, I felt like I was 2, or 3 years old. Even thogh I was 6, or maybe even 7. I think that it is obvisous why I felt that way. I think that to be 11, it means that you are riding up on teen years, and you are going to be trusted and respected more that you were when you were little.
by the way, the lunch lady had a son in 5th grade and did everything for him and was really mean to rest of us, and if she had given her son a glass bottle, she would have been like oh it's okay don't worry about it.

when the narrator says, your 11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3 and 2 she means that you havent matured yet so sometimes when your mad at someeying and start to cry, your acting like you are 3. Or like the example from the story, rachel starts to cry because she coulnt tell her teacher that the sweater wasnt hers, she started to cry and, when she did that, she brought back memories of when she was 5. i remeber a time when i was in second grade and we were "flying" to japan, since i was talking i had to go out in the hall, and that meant i was there last one to board. when i came back in the classroom all my friends were sitting next to eachother and i had to sit in the back alone. i was so mad that i started crying. when i look back at that time, i felt like such a baby, like i was 3.
p.s to this day all my friends still tease me about that time, but we all laugh!!

I also think it means that you will have the same emotions as you did before. When I was in 5th grade and I got in trouble for something that I didn't do. I felt so mad that I started being rude to people even though it wasn't there fault. During that time, I felt like 5 instead of 10. To be the age I am now, I think it means to be more mature as you go along. Eleven is different from the other ages because you would again be more mature, and you would also have to be more responsible as you get older.

When Rachel says she's not just 11, but she's 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,and 1 she means she can act like all of those ages at somepoint. She can act like shes three when she can't speak up for herself or she can act like she's 11 when she is responsible for her actions. One time I felt sort of like Rachel was kind of like cole's experiance. I was sitting next to my BEST friend and we were in 2ish grade. She was getting bored of adding insanely easy numbers and it was boring but my teacher got annoyed when she started talking. My teacher thought it was me and I didn't want to say NO IT WASN'T ME IT WAS IZZY!!! So I defenselessly sat in the corner and cryed. I wasn't know for talking and my friend was so I got blamed.
I really liked my teacher in second grade. she was my favorite in elementary school!!! Bye!!!!
I think that when the narrator said,"when your 11 your not just 11, your 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, & 1" she ment that even though your 11 you some times act like a little kid. I remember when I was 9 I got really mad at my baby sitter, and I locked my self in a bathroom. I felt like I was 3 and it didn't even work, she never came for me. I think that being 11 means that You can still act younger, but you have to be more mature.

For example when she says that you cry like a baby, and sit in your mothers lap she is saying this is the treat of being 3 years old. Also when you say something immature and stupid that you find funny that is the treat of an eight year old.

What Rachel means is that she has all of the memories from her younger life. It happens in all of our lives daily when we have to remember how to add in math and use complete sentences in English. If we didn't have all of that knowledge from years ago we would never get anything done. Also sometimes you are treated like you are younger if you have a nanny or a babysitter at and older age.
I think that when you wake up on your birthday you don't feel your actual age why I don't know but I do know that over time you would feel your age. Also I think that you are also 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 10 but 11 at the same time.

When Rachel siad that I thought she meant that that was the day you were born, that that was the same day that Rachel became 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and was born. That was the same day she had a celebration for all her ages and it would always be that way. every year when it's my birthday I always think that it's already been another year and now I'm 12 or 9 or any age. I'll be thinking that when I'm like 40. What im saying is that you would always be the same person even when you are a year older
