Thank You Ma'am

Please respond to one of the following questions. Then respond to something you are seeing in other’s posts.

What do you think the boy’s home life is like? How do you know/ Why do you think that this is important to the story and why doesn’t Mrs. Jones ask him about it at dinner?

What do you think the boy learns from his encounter with Mrs. Jones? How do you know? (Note: that “nothing” is an acceptable answer as long as you provide evidence to support it).

Why is it significant that Mrs. Jones doesn’t say “but” after she tells the boy that she was young once and I wanted things she could not get?

Why do you think Mrs. Jones helps the boy? Explain why you think so.

Hi! Please note that you only have to answer ONE of the questions for the story. And then, you have to respond ONCE!

See you tomorrow :)

I think mrs. jones helps the boy because she knows he is homeless and i mean if a boy went up to you and try to stael money and his face was all dirty what would you think. Also he was alone on the streets and he looked lonely she thought he need help. Thats why I think Mrs. Jones helps the boy

i think that it is significant that the lady doesn't but in the story because she probably did things that she shouldn't have also.

i agree with rob. if a boy ran yp to a grown up and tried to steel money, i would either give some to him, but i probably wouldn't have taken him home with me.

sorry. up, not yp

When he steals the purse his face is all dirty so she knows he is homeless. when she goes back to the house she gives him $10 to buy new shoes. also he thinks of stealing her handbag when she leaves the room but he ends of not doing it

if that kid stole from me i would not have known he was homeless that woman is really good at seeing things

I think the boys home life is pretty terrible because he was trying to steel money from Mrs.Jones so adviously he is pretty pour so he can,t afford to by his own shoes.I agree with anonymous number one that Mrs.Jones helps the boy because she knows that the boy is very poor or homeless.

I think the boy learned that he doesn't always have to steal to get something he wants. I know this because the boy wanted to steal the pocketbook to get blue suade shoes but, when he asks Mrs. Jones she gives him the money for it.

I think that the boy's home life is a bad one. Obviously if he had to steal to get shoes he lives in poverty or he is homeless. That's obviously VERY bad! The boy's face was dirty too. She must have known that he doesn't live very well...

She must have known that he doesn't live very well... Mrs.Jones doesn't ask him at dinner because if he is homless she doesn't want to embarass him...that would be rude. But I guess stealing a purse is more rude than that...

Hey everyone sorry I posted twice.. I relized I left out part of the question...anyway...I completely agree with Rob. Mrs.Jones just wants to be a helpful person by feeding those on need of money.

i think that the boy was homeless because if he had a mom or dad they would tell him not to go steeling someone's money.i think mrs. jones was extremely nice to the boy because he tried to steel something from her and she still fed him.

i agree with cole. this boy obviously is in poverty if he is willing to steel something from mrs. jones.

The reason Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones did not finish her thought by saying but is because she was trying to set a good example of what the boy should not do. Also, she did not want to give him just cause for him to steal like others may do in his situation.

i cant even imagin what the boys homelife is like.I really dont no if he even has one. If it was ok why would he be out stealing money from people he doesnt know? she said "Aint you got anybody at home to wash your face?" No'm said the boy". obviously he doesnt have anyone at home to take care of him. If he was not homeless and had a family he wouldnt be srealing money he probably doesnt have any fro food and other stuff. i dont think she wanted to ask because she didnt wan t to get into his personal buisness. its not her business of neading to know. plus its probably a story that someone does not want to hear.

Aly i think mrs. jones was kinda harsh to him. Well of course she was someone was trying to steal from her. I no that she let him in for dinner which was very thoughtful but she was dragging him and holding him by the shirt. i dont think thats very nice.

I think mrs. jones helps roger because not any ordinary person would run up and try to steal your purse. i think that she took him home to teach him how to do good things instead of bad. i think she tought him good things so he would spread the kindness also.

Anonymous said...

yeah tucker i think it is weird that in the end he doesnt steal the purse joe P.S. the ananomos above this is mine

I think that Mrs Jones helped the boy because she felt bad for him. The boy(Roger ) had no parents and has to steal objects to live. Also he was all dirty and she probley didn't want him to keep on living like that because he might get in trouble.

I deffinatly think that mrs. jones isn't a normal person. She helped the boy because she felt bad for him. If someone tried to rob me like that I would call the cops!!! P.S i am responding to whoever responded to tucker and is above the "hi hi hi". P.S.S you spelled " anonymous" wrong!!

I think Roger learned to respect other people's belongings. He also leared to ask before taking something. In the story he glanced at Mrs.Jones' purse but didn't try to take it. Mrs.Jones told him if he asked her for some money to buy blue suede shoes, she would give it to him. Next time Roger wants something he probably will ask.

I agree with julia Roger's home life must have to be bad if he stole money.

I think that the boy's home is pretty bad because he tried to steel the purse to get money to buy shoes, so that means that theirs nobody there for him to buy him a pair of shoes, or they don't have enough money. Also, when Mrs. Jones brought him back to her house, his face is all dirty. That's probably because he doen't have a place to wash it. I think that Mrs. Jones didn't ask him about it at dinner because it would be rude if she just started asking about his family and home. This is the key to the story because if the boy didn't live like he did, then he wouldn't of snatched the purse to buy the shoes that he couldn't buy himself, and so the whole story wouldn't have even taken place.

Caitlin said...

I agree with Madeline that Rodger learned to respect people and their belongings, and that next time he wants something like new shoes, he'll just ask.

Mrs. Jones helps the boy becasue he comes up to her looking very scruffy and looking a little guilty, because he was trying to steal money from Mrs. Jones. But Mrs. Jones see through that guilty face and sees a boy who really needs her help, and takes it upon herself to be that person to take him in and help him become a better person.

rebecca pomerantz said...

i completely agreee with ryan because she definently went out of her way to help this boy and definently did things she probably should not have done.

I think that the boys home life is pretty crummy if he had to steal to get 10 dollar shoes. Also he said that their is no one at home to cook or tell him to wash his face, so he doesn't have any parents. This is REALLY important to the story because if he wasn't doing so badly he wouldn't have tryed to take Mrs.Jones's bag and there would be no story. I think Mrs. Jones didn't ask more questions because he was probably homles and thats not realy some thing to be proud of.

Chelsea Panek

I think Mrs. Jones helped the boy because he had a dirty face and tried to steal Mrs. Jones purse. I think what really made her help the boy was when she asked something about his "folks at home" and when he replied " Don't have any". She felt bad for the boy. I don't think the boy should have gone in her apartment (because people steal kids sometimes)but atleast she was nice and gave the kid $10 to go buy the shoes he wanted.

Anonymous said...

katie: I agree with joe that Mrs. Jones took Rodger home so she could teach him not to steal.

Anonymous said...

I fully agree with rob because if a boy with a dirty face younger than me came up and not nessisaraly tried to steal money but i would feel bad for him or her. and try to help the child as much as possible.

REILLY

I think that he learned that when you are mean and steal, you should be punished. But when you stat telling the truth and are acting nicer, then you deserve gifts and to be treated better. In the story right after Roger stole the woman's purse, she was hurting him, and giving him what he deserves. But later on when he started telling the truth she was nicer to him.

Melissa: I think the boy's life at home is quiet and lonely. I think that because the boy said "There's nobody home at my house". I think that nobody really cares about him a lot. That is probably why he is alone and probably the reaskon why he tried to steal the pocketbook. He also probably has little money if he was tring to steal a pocketbook just for shoes. Mrs. Jones probably didn't ask him at dinner because she probably didn't want him to think about it or she didn't want to get in his life. Without knowing what his life is at home, it would be a boring story and no point to it.

I agree with Cole that the boy's life is a bad one. It makes sence for it to be.

I think that if a kid tried to steal my money, I would put him on a bus to his parents house. But I would give him/her some money to buy food.
